Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
If you are listening to the news, there is much talk about the future elections. Those who are running for the different offices are continually appearing on television asking for your vote. They all tell us how wonderful they will make things in our area. Often if the facts were known, they really cannot do much unless they get those they serve with to agree with them.

Of course one thing they fear is losing your vote. They hope that no matter what they say we will always vote for them and the party they represent. That should not be the case. We should listen to them to find out what they stand for and vote according to that. We need to see if they will really work to make things better especially for the poor and for those who need help.

As Catholics we must be sure that what they stand for is God’s law. There are things like Abortion and Racial Prejudice that are intrinsically evil. If we back a candidate who encourages those things we are involving ourselves in that sin. These are not just disagreeable choices, they are actually evil and against God’s law. Things like supporting “school choice” is a program that would help the Church and the poor in schooling their children, but being against them is not an evil.

Some of our Catholic Politicians say that their support of any program is their choice to make and totally up to them. They refuse to follow the teaching of the Church. They refuse to admit that some of these are intrinsic evils and can separate them from God. I think that often they are willing to say this in order to get votes even though it is evil.

However, we are Catholics and therefore we are committed to uphold God’s Law. Jesus has asked us to carry him with us wherever we find ourselves. This means that we practice our Faith and consequently normally we will not support anyone who supports anything that is an intrinsic evil. Being serious about our Faith, we should study the candidates who will represent us and vote for those who follow God’s law. This is not always easy, but it is what God asks of us. God Bless,

+Bishop Mac

Please pray for Military Personnel in combat, and for our priests, who are military Chaplains. Pray that the war will end soon.

STEWARDSHIP
Our Stewardship gifts to our Church for last weekend were $11,708. Our gift to the St. Patrick Missionaries was $5,163. Thank you for your generosity. Your generosity is your gift to God, as good stewards of his gifts to you, to thank him for all his gifts of time, talent and treasure that he has entrusted to you.

STEWARDSHIP SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION
The good Samaritan was also a good steward, giving his time and his treasure to meet his neighbor’s needs. At the end of this familiar story, Jesus urges his hearers – and us – to go and do the same.

Please remember to place Holy Trinity Parish in your Will. Those who generously did this in the past, have helped us to stay out of heavy debt.
